Northern Lights

This is a fire rainbow, the rarest of naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena. It was photographed near the Idaho Canada border and lasted for an hour. The clouds have to be cirrus with just the right amount of ice crystals and the the sun at 58 degrees. In other words, ITS MAGIC!

The Light of Tao

There is an old Taoist story about a group of Confucian intellectuals who, while strolling past a huge waterfall, glimpse a human body in the churning, roaring froth. Horrified, they gather by the banks, trying to figure out how to fish out the body and give it a decent funeral. The discussion comes to an abrupt end when an old man pops out of the water at their feet, dries himself off and walks away.
Once the scholars have stopped gaping in astonishment, they run after the old man. "How did you do that?" they demand. "no one could swim in that water without being killed."
"Oh no, it's really very easy" the old man tells them. "you just go up when the water goes up , and down when the water goes down". (Taken from Martha Beck's book, Finding Your Own North Star)

Girl Power

This is a picture of the Relay for Life team in Stephenville, TX. Last year they raised $7,000 for the American Cancer Society. After all these years, I am still overwhelmed by the number of people of all ages, etc. who are will to join together to help a good cause. Go Girls!!

Lighting 93 Candles

Minnie and me. She is 93 years old today. Has spent her life in service to others. National and international nursing positions. Panama, Beruit, Saudi Arabia, New York City, Cape Cod have all been her home for a while. We have had forty years of adventures together. Education and the freedom that it offers has been a central theme of her life. Both of her children are university professors and all five grandsons have graduated from college. What a role model and mentor.

Dancing in the light

Coming home is the name of the Children's Dance Theatre Spring Concert. It is commemorating the 60th anniversary of the program and the 72nd year of the Tanner Dance Program. The studio has provided a sanctuary all of these years for the beauty and exuberance of childhood and the discovery of the creative process.

Promise of New Beginnings

Carl Sandburg said that babies are God's way of letting us know the world should go on. Two new ones have joined our family and circle of friends. It has been a few years since we have had babies in the family. What joy!
